Camera Mechanics at Fakahatchee Strand
Robert will teach his approach to nature travel photography and share his thoughts on seeing and photographing this unique habitat. Too many people travel through the Everglades environment and never truly see it. For those that shoot in JPEG, learn how to get the most out of your camera. While traveling in the van, there will also be a discussion on the mechanics and creative use of aperture and shutter speed.

Not only is it very light and versatile, it has a 17.7 inch minimum focusing distance allowing you to leave other lenses at home when traveling! Tamron will be there to provide loaners for many mounts but you may want to stop by their table on Fridday afternoon so you can try it out in the Gardens on Saturday morning.

Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary
Have you ever wanted to get some amazing wildlife photos in a place that is one of a kind? Then join me on this exciting workshop to one of my favorite places in Florida: Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. Here, with over 13,000 acres, we will explore while traversing along a 2.25-mile boardwalk that meanders through pine flatwoods, wet prairie, around a marsh, and finally into the largest old-growth bald cypress forest in North America just a few feet above the water. The Naples Pier is a prominent landmark in SW Florida. As the sun wanes we will guide you in: 1) creating a Time-Lapse movie of the sun going down over the Pier and Gulf, 2) since the Naples pier was heavily damaged by Hurricane Ian, our light painting exercise will focus on creating abstract objects (orbs, silhouettes, and unlimited colorful designs) with light painting tools and the pier in the background, 3) photographing the stars and more. A tripod and cable release are essential. This is our opportunity to shed light on a Naples landmark we may never see again.

Portraits: Easy Ways to Blend Flash with Ambient Light at Baker Park
Join us for a hands on workshop where we’ll cover the basics of blending flash with ambient light. We’ll provide the flashes, triggers, and models so all you’ll need to bring is your camera. You’ll be able to shoot in four different locations in the park, plus we’ll cover shooting sunset portraits.

A Private Tour of the Shy Wolf Sanctuary
Shy Wolf Sanctuary Education & Experience Center rescues captive-bred exotic and un-releasable wild animals. Six Mile Cypress Slough
Have you ever wanted to explore a Florida Swamp with easy access right in the middle of town? Then join me on this fun afternoon as we explore this 3,500 acre wetland of Six Mile Cypress Slough. This unique ecosystem is home to a variety of wading birds, alligators, river otters, reptiles, and other unique plant life. The short 1.2 mile boardwalk is just a few feet over the water and enables you to capture some amazing images. I have personally been to this location many times and it is one of my favorite places to photograph. So, come join me and let’s explore the amazing diversity of wildlife!

Ten Thousand Islands Sealife and Sunsets Cruise
Learn Robert’s approach to photographing in a group from a vessel where he will share his settings and thought process. This two-hour tour will also find us on the shore of an island to finish the day with a sunset (who knows, maybe even a photograph of the elusive Green Flash). Robert also has a special creative challenge in mind for this trip. Join him, create, and take home a memory and souvenir.

The “Big Three” – direction, quality and depth of light are the key to describing your subject and setting the mood. We work with window light, backlight, open shade and garage door lighting. Reflectors and diffusers provide a tremendous amount of control in manipulating the light.
We will start with an instructional image presentation that covers the “rules” of Portraits Unplugged and various lighting situations for creative imaging. We will then go outside for demos with reflectors and diffusers and then photographed models on location. This presentation and shooting class will help create a higher level of quality for your subjects!

- A medium telephoto lens is great for portraits. That would be 85mm to 135mm on a full frame camera, or 56mm to 90mm on a crop sensor.

Portraits with Flash

The photographer’s challenge in creating a compelling portrait involves both creative and technical concepts combined in a way that evokes meaning and impact. Learning how to use your flash easily and effectively helps the photographer make images that are flattering and effective. Portable flash is a wonderful and sometimes intimidating tool and it will be explained step by step on how to choose the correct settings and modifiers. A variety of lighting techniques will be covered with the emphasis on understanding the three main aspects of light: direction, quality and depth. The basics are covered thoroughly: between manual and TTL, using the + and – to change your flash exposure, using flash ON camera with modifiers and flash OFF camera using radio remotes. Several light setups will be explained and demonstrated. After an educational presentation, the participants will photograph models in a studio setting.
Your fear of flash will disappear, and your portrait will have more meaning and impact.

What to Bring:
- Portable flash and any modifiers you have
- If you have a radio transmitter/receiver so that you can get the flash off the camera, please bring that as well
- Please read your manual and know how to change the mode to TTL or Manual, and how to use the + and – buttons
- A medium telephoto lens or a medium zoom lens. For portraits that would be 85mm or 105mm for full frame cameras and 56mm or 70mm for crop sensors. Zoom 24-85 for full frame and 16-55 for crop.
